WHY IS IT THE “JOE ROSS”?
Joe Ross supported Wayzata Cross Country for over twenty years as a parent, volunteer, fan, and friend. He and his wife Carol had five of their own children (George, Charlie, Suzie, Tim, and Tom) run, but if you ask any of the other team members of that era they will tell you that the Ross' treated them all like family. The Ross' were there with the homemade donuts and coed races in the spring, the bonfires in the fall, the caring advice, the shared laugh on a summer run, the pat on the back, and even the occasional tongue lashing (you needed it and didn't want it, but knew Joe was going to give it). Even years after his children graduated and moved on, Joe was still there cheering for the Wayzata harriers at Hollydale or Bassett Creek and pulling them aside and sharing his wisdom and humor. Joe died in the spring of 1993 and the Wayzata Cross Country Team remembers and honors all of the love and energy he gave to those who ran before us and take this opportunity to honor & thank all of the other adults who support us today in our pursuit of the good times of cross country.
